Charity of the Month: Marie Curie

Charity of the Month: Marie Curie

This April, Bernaville Nurseries and it’s customers are helping raise money for Marie Curie services in ‘The Great Daffodil Appeal’.

1 in 4 people don’t receive the palliative care and support they need at the end of life, and that can mean a lack of support, financial stress, and loss of dignity. And this problem is growing fast. People in the UK are living longer, with multiple and more complex health challenges. By 2048, the need for end of life care will have increased by up to 25%. And the people who miss out most are those from disadvantaged and marginalised communities.

Marie Curie is a nationwide charity which provides people the best possible end of life through free palliative and end of life care, information and support for those living with a terminal illness. They bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care given at home, in hospices and over the phone. Marie Curie are at the forefront of campaigning for more people to have a better end of life through parliamentary reform and funding palliative care research.

Everyone will be affected by dying, death and bereavement. That can’t be changed; but the end of life experience can. Everyone deserves the best possible care and support, reflecting what’s most important to them.

Last year they delivered over 80,000 episodes of care by their hospice and nursing teams – in people’s own homes or in hospices, from Marie Curie Nurses and Healthcare Assistants.

You can donate directly into the collection tins at Bernaville’s tillpoints and make sure you visit the Marie Curie website to find out more ways to get involved.
