Charity Of The Month: Alzeimer’s Society

Bernaville Nurseries are supporting Alzeimer’s Society this June with fundraising points at each till. One in three people born in the UK today will be diagnosed with dementia in their lifetime and Alzeimer’s Society offer a range of support services from a listening ear on the phone to a visit in person and opportunities to connect with others.

Dementia is not a natural part of aging. It is caused when a disease damages nerve cells in the brain. Dementia can be caused by many different diseases. These diseases affect the brain in different ways, resulting in different types of dementia. 

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia. For most people, the first signs of Alzheimer’s are problems with their memory, thinking, language or perception. There are also three other major types of dementia: Vascular dementia, Dementia with Lewy bodies and Frontotemperal dementia.
